I've been having a chirping noise that seems to be coming from beneath the dash on my 2002. Car is recently purchased and I'm trying to sort through a few issues...thanks. Also, anyone have any remedies for a radio that won't play CD's? I've heard this is a common issue and was wondering if there is some sort of magic reboot that can be done.

Unfortunately the only fix I have heard of is to replace the radio. Sorry.

No idea about the chirping. When the CD. player in my 2002 quit playing or switching discs I unhooked the battery for a few minutes and it started working! Worth a try!!

Have no way of knowing your exact problem, but for sure the "changer" can fail ... A jammed changer could be what you are hearing.

When we bought the car we immediately found the changer was jammed. Dealer had a rebuilt sent and it wouldn't change .. was told by Ford service specialist to expect it every year or so .. "a weak spot".

Solution for us was to stop the changer from moving. We now just use slot # 1 and change manually - being careful to always select slot # 1 before putting in another CD. No problems after almost 3 years

I get CD ERROR whenever I turn on the radio so I can't just use the first slot since it doesn't work for any of them.

Right. Sounds maybe the changer may be jammed. When I said use 1 slot only ... I meant after the deck is replaced and / or fixed and working

Seems the tendency to jam when mechanism is changing is is quite high .. which is why we do not allow it to change

This is frequent problem that many of us have had and it seems the only solution after trying the battery disconnect and restarts is to have it fixed or replaced.
One of the bad features of the car.

Mine would jam and I would get the error message on the display.. I couldn't eject any of the disks.. The battery trick would not work on mine.. I had to jam another into the slot and it would then eject the other disks.. Saw that fix on this forum also.. I ended up putting a Pioneer double din Nav system with Sirius in mine.
