Adjustment of downshift linkage on 1957 e-code

Hope someone can help. First post so I hope I did it right.
I'm working on a friends 1957 E code and trying to adjust throttle linkage and kickdown linkage which I understand are related.
I have looked through the service manual and found nothing
I purchased the 1956-1957 Fordomatic shop manual also and it covers the adjustment of the 6 cylinder cars and trucks and the 8 cylinder cars and trucks.
I cannot find anything regarding the adjustment for the 2 - 4 barrel E code and the linkage is very different from the single 4 barrel carb setup
! have been unable to adjust the accelerator assembly link to get the 4 7/8 pedal travel that is apparently called for without cutting and rethreading the adjustment rod and I'm hesitant to so knowing that I really don't know what the correct procedure is for this setup.
Any help or insight will be greatly appreciated, thanks
