Just recently purchased a 1978 Ford Thunderbird with a 400 CID V8. The power steering pulley seems to wobble, you can really notice it when it is cranking. Any chance this is the pump and not the pulley itself? Having a hard time trying to find a replacement pulley.

Easy way to tell would be take off the belt and see if the bearing behind the pulley is loose or wobbles . Pull back and forth and around on the pulley to see if the bearing is good or loose. Then spin the pulley really fast and see if it wobbles. If the bearing is good and tight and the pulley wobbles replace the pulley. Usually with a bad bearing you usually will hear like a growling sound coming from behind the pulley when the car is running. If you can't hear anything & it sounds good it's probably a bad or bent pulley. Try discount99.us for the pulley or summitracing.com type it in their search bars. 1978 Thunderbird power steering pulley. It will tell you if it fits your engine. Good luck
