Any advice on install procedure? Should I completely drain steering fluid first? I filled it with Ford Type F before and tried a Cardone pump, didn't help, still made noise. This time I have a 'Bird Nest' Eaton to try. I hope I can get it quieted down.

Other posts have mentioned, the Lucas oil products with conditioners seem to be the best to sort the noise.

I sent my Eaton pump out for overhaul due to noise and leaks through RockAuto. Came back noiseless and dry. Installed the pump, serviced with type F. Works great and it's quiet too.

I have the Eaton pump on my ‘64. (It’s the same as yours). I rebuilt 3 times using the kit from The Bird House. It still leaked (But was very quiet). The front seal is extremely difficult to install without damaging it. By all means, drain/suck as much fluid out before you start. (Unless you don’t care about messes). I then installed a new Cardone Pump. BIGGEST mistake ever. It is the NOISIEST pump in the planet! I’ve “bled it” several times, and tried different fluids to no avail. You can hear me coming for blocks. Chinese junk.

Wow, sorry to hear that,. I can relate with the cheap aftermarket item we have to deal with. Thanks

Put the new Eaton PS pump in, type F fluid and Lucas additive used. Ran car at idle for ten minutes. Jacked it up turned wheel etc... all sounded great. Next day fired it up and the squawk in the wheel was back and the pump whines. At my wits end! Does this mean air leaks? Any suggestions?

Hi there. Wondering under what conditions the pump whines. Is it at idle with no pressure being exerted on the steering wheel? Or when pressure is exerted on the steering wheel? Also, have you ruled out belt related noise?

It whines at idle with no wheel pressure and increases with rpms.. turning the wheel causes that squawking, like rubber on rubber noise.
