Had this problem with my 63. Auto body shop went in through the back seat with a long probe and managed to release the latch.

I had a similar problem with my 55's glove box. Having removed the cardboard box, I was able to access the lock from the rear and remove it. I removed the pins from the lock. It now works, but any key, etc. will unlock/lock it. Having inherited the car from my dad, I couldn't help but wonder what treasures I would find in the glove box. I was somewhat disappointed, when all I found were expired registration certificates from the 80s. I did not want to have to re-key a new lock.

Thank you. That’s what I thought. Any idea what to put on the end of the probe? Cannot see it that well. Appreciate your share.

I had the same problem with my 65 TBird. You will need the following items to fix your problem:

A. One 4 foot long piece of rebar
B. One old 6 inch socket extension
C. One U-Joint socket

Have your local welding attach the socket extension to one end of the rebar and attach the u-joint to the other end.
Remove the back seat and slide your supersized socket extension through the opening and remove the two bolts hold the latch assembly to the back of the trunk.

See the attached photo’s for my supersized socket extension.

One last suggestion – lock the U-Joint socket using a length of tape to keep the U-Joint from moving around until the socket is firmly seated on the latch nut.

Good luck with your quest.
