57 Bird rear window window installation

To my surprise, the rear window released itself from the hardtop while covered in storage. The rubber seemed to be shot so ordered anew. Does anyone have the steps for the four components in order of attaching them all: window, rubber, chrome and the top. Thanks!

JUST finished mine, put a string around the rubber. very slowly work it into the opening. photo in manual of how to, windshield and rear install are the same. have ss trim in place, should take 30 mikes or less. tuck the headliner in as you procced.

When I had my headliner replaced I furnished a new gasket. The installer said he had a devil of a time getting it in as he said the new gasket was much thicker than the original. He confirmed this with others who have replaced these gaskets and he is a custom interior specialist working on classics and custom hot rods.
 
I didn’t use any sealer on mine, hasn’t move in 4 years. Also as said install the SS trim before installing the window. Mush easier that way.
 
Maybe a little dish detergent and water should make it pretty slippery and easy clean up. My guy said a rubber mallet came in handy too.
 
Had my sons-in-laws lift off the top on my "57 and put it on end on a portable storage device. Rear window fell out. Removed chrome trim, removed rubber gasket, cleaned glass with Windex and a razor blade, cleaned chrome with mineral spirits, cleaned adhesive from chrome grove with Goo Gone. Ordered new gasket from Casco. Can't find adhesive anyplace (Larry's, Concours, NPD, Casco). Will use wrap around cord and a SIL to reinstall. Those of you who have done this, are your rear windows still firmly in place without the adhesive?

Adhesive shouldn't be needed. Once installed it's not going anywhere.
 
I have been told that "back in the day" there was an occasional problem with the back window popping out while driving. The remedy being installing 4 small screws on the inside at the corners going through the rubber into the fiberglass. I have never seen anything written about this. Anyone else ever heard of this?

Nope, never heard of it. But somebody else here just stated that when he took it off and put it on a stand, the window popped out. weird, I don't understand the physics of how that happens.
 
In my circumstances it happened when the Ss-I-Ls were twisting the top to center it in the top holder. Also, the rubber gasket was cracked and had deterioration. The black adhesive was a mess to clean-up.
 
The rear windows do not go on with any adhesive. A previous owner might have put it on to stop a leak instead of replacing the gasket.
 
How do you get this new Concourse rear window gasket on the rear window? It's such a tight fit I can't get it completely on the glass! Tried setting it in the sun to soften the gasket to no avail, tried the drier to no avail, tried soapy water, nope, tried two people but cannot stretch the new gasket on! Is it the gasket? Did Concourse send me the wrong gasket #42084? Maybe I will have to cut it and glue the ends together? Maybe order a different supplier?

When I had my headliner replaced the fellow told me it was a bear to get that new gasket on. He didn't go into detail though unfortunately. I think most of the gaskets come from the same manufacturer.
 
Yeah, I looked at Mac's, Concours, NPD, Larry's, CASCO, and they all use the same gasket. How do you stretch this puppy out? Local glass shop wants $120 to install the gasket to the glass!!!

May as well have them install the glass as well. They have tricks and experience that is probably worth paying for.
