My 56 with FordoMatic is making a discomforting knock when shifting down to second gear. Happens when slowing through 5mph ...everytime. Up shift is smooth enough .Since I dont think it is likely to heal itself.
Any thoughts before I start searching for a old transmission expert?
hope to see a few classic bitds at the AACA in Charlotte this weekend.

It is a very easy transmission to rebuild. With a manual you could buy a rebuild kit and do it yourself for a couple hundred dollars. Also the torque converter can be taken apart and cleaned and inspected. They are very good dependable transmissons.
