The weatherstrip attaches correctly to trunk lid ,however it fits and seals better if installed on the body. I learned the hard way.

what did you use to take the glue off after you removed the weather strip?
 
There is a weather strip adhesive remover in a spray can, I think 3M makes it. Easy to use, works great. Check your local parts store.
