I'm having trouble getting my 55 to crank. I jiggle the shift lever and eventually it does crank and start. I need to know how to correct this problem. Do I need a new switch or just an adjustment? Where is the switch located? Will I need to remove the seat and/or carpet?

Thanks for your advise.

The neutral safety switch is located on the shift rod at the transmission. It may need a minor adjustment. You should be able to see it on the driver side of the transmission

My issue is once I start the car I forget to put it in park.

thankfully the garage is level and it doesn't roll away.

Anyone know why they started cars this way?

A modified neutral safety switch is available from at least one vender that will allow to start the car in either park or neutral. Of course the dangerous trick is to bypass the switch so it will start in all positions.

This the new N safety switch just got it out of the box and noticed the wires, where there soldered would be exposed under the car. So before I install tomorrow I coated the connections with plastic epoxy letting it cure overnight. Just didn't like the dumb idea having those connections exposed especially under the car.

Had to splice all 4 wires the car harness had all 4 male ends and the new wires on the switch the male ends didn't fit. Either too small or too big couldn't tell they just wouldn't snap into each other. Just a heads up.
