I have a question for any or all of you. I have a 2005 Tbird and recently had the 3 chrome strips replaced at the Ford dealership. It cost around $1,000. But I really needed to replace the old chrome and liked how nice they look. My problem is this: All of a sudden, I noticed a gash on the inside of my passenger side window. It is a long arc and not sharp but definitely damaged by something when I lowered the window and put it backk up. The window works ok but the window needs to be fixed. I am wondering if there may have been a piece of metal that somehow was left in the door and scratched the window.

When I read the descryiptions in this thread and the warnings that you can lose a bolt I am wondering if that may have happened in my car? The cut is all on the inside of the window, and the glass on the outside is smooth.

Of course, I will get the window fixed but do not want this to happen again. Also, if the dealer is responsible, then I will approach them.

Any suggestions or advice owld be very much appreciated. Thank you.

PS. Tomorrow morning I will take pictures and post them.

Unfortunately the burden of proof on your part is proving the dealership was negligent on their part causing damage to your vehicle. In my past experiences with a certain dealership which I no longer let near my vehicles they never owned up to any wrong doing from A hood not being fully latched after oil changes to lug nuts not torqued to spec which then caused over $3,000. In damage. GOOD LUCK.

From the swap over to the new chrome there is no way the passenger side window would have been tampered with. I’d have them respectfully open up the door panel and look for the issue. I have had the same issue on a Ford Fusion after I had solar screen Tint added.

You will have to remove the door panel and CAREFULLY operate the window and look for the interfering object....when you've found and corrected it you can call these guys out to fix the scratch:

They do amazing work and removed fairly deep wiper scratches on my 63 Corvette windshield before the car was judged....

I added the model year to your subject.

Well, my problem appears to be the tinted window. The heat or age has caused the tinted window to start peeling on the inside. Not sure if my auto policy covers this repair or not. Any thoughts?

My guess is that they don’t cover it or it may be below the deductible. Give them a call and ask. BTW, tinting that window is illegal here in NJ where only the rear windows are allowed to be tinted.

Thanks for the info. I am in Florida but will check.

You can tint away I Florida. Shouldn’t cost you more than $50. Find somebody that knows the trick to dealing with the short drop windows. Had both of my windows done for $100 on the 2002. I’m in Winter Garden.

Oh and if you drive your car 6,000 miles/year or less and it’s not your daily driver you can get full “agreed upon” coverage from The National Corvette Museum for a pittance compared to the “big boys”. That’s who insures my collector cars.

Really? I would like to check that out. In 4 years I only put on 6,000 miles so they may give me an extended warranty? My 2005 Tbird has 40,000 miles.

Should I only do the one that needs it or both? What do you mean by the trick with short drop windows? How do I ask them?
Thanks

If you go to a Professional well named windshield replacement, they can replace your window and they won't damage the Chrome cause I had to do that to my 2004 Thunderbird and they never bothered at all
