2005 3rd brake light replacement

  • Remove the removable hardtop if equipped.
  • Remove both rear wheels.
  • Remove the components in the order indicated in the illustration and table.

You say you want to 'check the bulb'.

If you do all that teardown and find out the bulb is good you may hate yourself....if there is some way to get to connector #6 and try to apply voltage to the bulb, maybe through the trunk or under convertible top, I'd try that first.
I've no idea if that's possible though. If I replaced the bulb I'd use an LED, I wouldn't want to have to do it again anytime soon. Ugh.
 
Doug and FF, that's a great idea to check the circuitry first. There is no bulb, in the HMSL, to replace. The light comes from a Light-Emitting Diode (LED).

Fuse #8 is ONLY for the center brake light and 5 amps, seems high for LEDs but I'll take your word for it..even more reason to troubleshoot further before taking stuff apart as LEDs are quite long lasting.

There is a separate brake pedal switch for the CHMSL different from the brake light switch. Try jumpering the connector across the switch.
