Hi there! I have a 2004 Pacific Roadster which has been garaged for a year. Now that I’m driving it again, when I place it in reverse, it backs very slowly and not effected by giving it more gas. The engine rev’s but not increase in speed. Has anyone else experienced this issue?

Just to clarify, you let the car sit for a year, did not start or drive it at all?

It will probably show some codes after it has run for a while.

Need clarification. Are you saying the engine revs up but the trans is not effective in making the car move or are you saying that the engine is unresponsive to throttle inputs?

Embarrassed to admit, but yes, the car developed issues with not being able to accelerate once in reverse. I kept it in the garage for about 13 months. The transmission is not effective in reverse. Would this indicate a rebuilt transmission is needed? It’s a beautiful car but what is recommended if it has 84k miles ? I am told the suspension is also shot. Thoughts anyone?

Maybe a filter and transmission service? Mine sat for almost 2 years before I bought it. Seemed sluggish going into my local garage. Did a complete flush and service on the trans and it shifts great now. Also the suspension was shot. It has now been replaced from rubber rot and new underneath. Drives great! Waiting for FEM to get back after being sent to reflash/rebuild then hopefully take a break on the wallet lol.

Thanks for your thoughts. I did have the transmission flushed and fluid replaced. They found metal shavings in the old fluid. The car still doesn’t reverse without gravity assist! Off to get estimates for a replacement transmission at a local (OC CA) transmission repair shop

This is perfectly normal to have some shavings on an old car! 2023 Photo of the magnetic on the plug on a 2004 Jeep during fluid service and it's still running strong and shifting fine and that is A LOT of shavings!
