So my “door open” light has been on for a few weeks and I decided to try and tackle it myself. Sprayed generous amounts of lubricant and tried to pry the latch free. It is now stuck and I somehow managed to dislodge the spring from the latch mechanism.

Just how screwed am I? Is a Ford dealer my only alternative or can a mechanic fix this?

It's a moot point. None of the current techs at a Ford dealer are even trained to work on these and since only 62k were made they rarely see them.

You do realize that the door ajar light illuminates when any door or the trunk is open. Most times the trunk switch is out of adjustment causing the light to illuminate. This is explained on page 13 of your owner’s manual.

The door latch system contains a latch that is fastened to the inside of the door frame and is controlled by the exterior and interior door handles. The door latch contains the door ajar switch and the lock actuator. So, if I understand correctly the door latch worked correctly before you attempted to do any repairs. If that’s the case, you will have to remove the door panel to gain access to the door latch.

To reattach the spring from the latch mechanism, you might have to remove the latch from the door.
