Does this car require any type of chipped key blank in order to have a spare or can I go to local Home Dept/Lowes to obtain?
Thank you
You need a chipped blank. The 02's chips different than the other years. You will need two keys to program a third. If you do not have two you will need a locksmith to reprogram your security system. That cost me 80 bucks. The Ford dealer will want much more.

Mine came with just one key. 2004 model and the dealer charge was $195 CDN or roughly $150 US. That was the chipped key, fob, and programming.

I have 2 keys and fobs as well. I would like a 3rd and maybe a 4th key. Any place other than the dealer to get a blank key with the correct chip. Also how do you program a blank when you have 2 original keys. I did not know that was possible but then again there is a lot I don't know. But that's not my fault, I've only been here for 70 years. You can't expect to learn everything in only that length of time.

Any locksmith can sell you a blank with the correct chip. 02 chips are different than 03,04 and 05's. Once the key is cut, follow the instructions in your manual. see below if you do not have one.

Every now and then, you can find an original Rotunda key with the Ford jewel on eBay for our tbirds.

From the owners manual.

Programming spare keys
A maximum of eight keys can be coded to your vehicle. Only
SecuriLock keys can be used. To program a coded key yourself, you
will need two previously programmed coded keys (keys that already
operate your vehicle’s engine) and the new unprogrammed key(s) readily
accessible for timely implementation of each step in the procedure.
If two previously programmed coded keys are not available, you must
bring your vehicle to your dealership to have the spare coded key(s)
programmed.
Please read and understand the entire procedure before you begin.
1. Insert the first previously
programmed coded key into the
ignition and turn the ignition from 1
(LOCK) to 4 (RUN) (maintain
ignition in 4 (RUN) for at least one
second).
2. Turn ignition to 1 (LOCK) and
remove the first coded key from
the ignition.
3. Within ten seconds of turning the ignition to 1 (LOCK), insert the
second previously programmed coded key into the ignition and turn the
ignition from 1 (LOCK) to 4 (RUN) (maintain ignition in 4 (RUN) for at
least one second but no more than ten seconds).
4. Turn the ignition to 1 (LOCK) and remove the second coded key
from the ignition.
5. Within 20 seconds of turning the ignition to 1 (LOCK), insert the new
unprogrammed key (new key) into the ignition and turn the ignition
from 1 (LOCK) to 4 (RUN) (maintain ignition in 4 (RUN) for at least one
second). This step will program your new key to a coded key.
6. To program additional new unprogrammed key(s), repeat this
procedure from step 1.
If successful, the new coded key(s) will start the vehicle’s engine and the
theft indicator will illuminate for three seconds and then go out.
If not successful, the new coded key(s) will not start the vehicle’s
engine, the theft indicator will flash on and off and you may repeat steps
1 through 6. If failure repeats, bring your vehicle to your dealership to
have the new spare key(s) programmed.

Thanks for that info. I will look for another key or two and program them. I like to have several around just incase.
