I'm doing the front brakes on my 2002. I noticed that the bottom pin on the caliper bracket doesn't slide in and out. At first I thought that it was frozen but when I pull the rubber back it has a collar on the pin that prevents it from going in. It appears to be pressed in place and is not meant to move. Is that the way it's supposed to be. If so what's the purpose of the rubber boot. When I look at replacement brackets they show that both pins move. I'm confused.

After looking at it again the collar I'm seeing is part of the bracket. It looks like the pin is frozen solid. I tried a big hammer and a large vise grip but it's not budging. This is a new one on me. I've never seen a pin frozen inside the bracket like this one. Rather than mess with it any more I'm just going to order a new bracket and pins.

If the caliper pin is seized, it could be where the pin threads in the caliper or where it slides in the caliper. Did you try using penetrating oil on the points in the picture below? Let the penetrating oil sit a few days and apply it several times. If that doesn't work, you may have to apply heat but be very careful that you do not damage the rubber boot.

The pin is seized in the bracket. I can remove the caliper. The bolt comes right out. I am going to try heating it before I look to buy another bracket as the front brackets are not that easy to find new.
