At this price, it probably would not be a bad idea to buy one and have it on hand! https://amzn.to/2Ra7ZMj

Here is the compressor and drier. Most A/C techs recommend you replace the drier when you replace the compressor! Click here to view all compressor & drier parts.

If you want a the OEM Motorcraft compressor click here for Amazon or click here for Ebay

The A/C compressor in my 05 has given up. I took it to a shop and was told that the shaft inside of the compressor had broken. The compressor clutch turns on with no unusual noises; it just doesn't cool. I do believe that when the shaft broke it was most likely during or just after starting up the car because the last time I had it on it was working and was cooling like it should. It was suggested that I replace all of the components like the compressor, drier, condenser and expansion valve at a cost of around $2000.00. I do most of the work on all of my cars and am considering giving this a run, the only thing I have a reservation about is the expansion valve. Due to the location, it seems that the intake manifold has to be removed to access the bolt that holds the connection to the firewall. I have a manual for the car but was wondering if there was any way to avoid having to remove the intake or should I just replace the compressor and drier, and hope for the best.

If you are installing a new air conditioning compressor due to an internal failure of the old unit, you must carry out the following procedures to remove contamination from the air conditioning system.
