My son recently acquired a 97 Thunderbird from his aunt. The vehicle is in great shape but due to a previous accident the airbags had been set off. We got a new steering wheel but I am wondering before installing the steering wheel does a sensor or something need to be reset? Just curious if we put the new steering wheel on is there a chance the airbag could automatically go off because it had previously been deployed. I can't seem to find a clear-cut answer.

Unless you just want or need the s/w airbag leave it unplugged. The sencers are mounted on the center rail or the radiator mount. I have a 97 and just removed my senders. If you plan on keeping this beauty, invest in a CHILTON repair manual.
