Deleting coolant expansion tank. When installing a new style HEI distributor the tank doesn't quite fit. So you can delete it without changing the radiator, all that is needed is

1. Dorman coolant neck 902-1047 (purchase link)
2. Dayco upper radiator hose 70438 (purchase link)
3. 1-3/4 inline radiator filler neck (purchase link)
4. Hose clamps (purchase link)

Photos don't show the clamps, but those need added.

MODERATOR NOTE: PERFORM THIS AT YOUR OWN RISK! IF AN EXPANSION TANK WAS NOT NECCESSARY, THEY WOULD NOT HAVE THEM AS IT WOULD BE A COST SAVING MEASURE FOR THE MANUFACTURER.

Your title "1966 Ford Thunderbird Q Code" has been revised. Please follow the posting instructions which clearly tell you to post a short summary of what your post is about. Also, this is a Ford Thunderbird site, so you don't need to include the make/model and trim level of your car.

PS Do not double post the same content on the website because the first one did not get replies, or you want to add photos. Reply to your old post. All of these has been merged into one post.

Post links to the products, not screenshots of the products. Takes the same effort.

Is the filler neck the highest point in the cooling system which it needs to be in order to evacuate the air. Also, an expansion tank is required for what the name implies, room for the fluid to expand when it gets hot. Otherwise it will puke out by the cap. I suppose you could add an overflow bottle attached to the nipple by the cap with a hose. Then the system will be able to evacuate air and then suck in air to replace the displaced air.

I had a lot of trouble with leaks at the intake manifold and tank of the 430 in my Bird. I did much as suggested in installing an inline filler neck. The filler neck is the high point in the system. I then used a modern expansion tank in the line with the filler neck overflow. This has worked well, no leaks, and no overheating in Texas summers with AC on. I also adapted a 1964 Lincoln radiator for additional capacity.
