The 1962 was the one with wire wheels that were recalled. See description in out YT video-

This was actually a "Sports Roadster" model with the tonneau cover removed. This was an early production Thunderbird that was later recalled to the dealer due to the problem with the Wire Wheels. After a failure of three of the four wheels on Elvis Presley's Rangoon Red Sports Roadster and other wheel failures, Ford recalled all the Sports Roadster models. They temporarily replaced the wheels with stock steel wheels and wheel covers until a suitable replacement could be fitted. The early Kelsey Hayes wheels were recalled, and newer designed wheels with thicker spokes were added. This shot was from an episode of the Twilight Zone called "Showdown with Rance McGrew" starring Larry Blyden. Season 3, Episode 20, original air date February 2, 1962.

I thought that the fix was thicker wires (48) spokes and not an increase of spokes. Am I wrong? Dave
Correct - 48 spokes on a real Kelsey Hayes Sport Roadster wheel from 62/63, and they require an inner tube. See attached photo. The revised wheel will have a date code of January 62 or later, generally under the rubber strap covering the spoke ends.

The modern reproductions have 56 spokes I believe, and do not require an inner tube.

the picture is a January 63 date coded wire wheel that a prior owner mounted on my '57.

To the best of my knowledge there were no factory installed wire wheels on a '64.
