1962 exhaust manifold carb tube broken off

I have a 1962 with stock exhaust manifolds. My question is the choke tube that is in the manifold is broken off. I read where it’s only heat that’s transferred up the tube to the choke mechanism and there is no exhaust air going up the tube. Thanks Dave

Can't you drill it out & fit a new tube. I think it's the same size as a metal brake pipe tube. It simply transfers the heat to the bi-metallic coil in the carb to open it as the manifold gets hot.
 
@perfectpete has the correct solution. Simply drill out the rusty tube with the correctly sized drill and install a new tube. Replace the old steel tube with a new stainless steel tube which are available from the Thunderbird vendors. No more rust issues.
 
That's what I did on my 62 Roadster. Can't remember how deep but think it's only about 1/2" in. The only other thing you need apart from the tube is the white heat resistant sleeve to retain the heat, also available from TBird suppliers.
