1962 Cylinder Shields Over or Under Trunk Mat?

Hello Folks,

I am installing a new trunk mat and boards on my convertible.

Do the hydraulic cylinder shields go on top of the mat, or does the mat just butt up to the shields?

I've looked online and I have seen it done both ways.
