I have purchased a new gas tank kit for my car. I have read about insulators for the gas tank. Is there a rubber insulator(s) on top of the tank? Are there supposed to be insulators that go between the tank straps and the tank bottom? I have read that the electrical grounding of the sending unit needs to go through the tank through the straps. ( thus no insulators between the straps and tank?). Any thoughts on undercoating the tank itself?...

Well I'm building my 59 and I will undercoat the tank and insulate between the straps and the tank. Seems to me a better way to make a better job so why not. All wiring will be protected. seems like a no brainer.

I thought the same until I talked to the Birds Nest rep that told me that insulating the tank between the straps and it could cause the sending unit to not ground; thus the fuel gauge may not work. I dropped the tank from my car and I found that there was no undercoating between the straps and the tank. So I am going to try soldering a ground wire onto the sending unit flange and connecting it to the cap screw that covers the sending unit in the trunk.... test for ground.... and undercoat the whole tank and insulate under the straps...

I also found tape and some sort of cloth in a strip on TOP of the tank that insulated between the trunk and the tank ribs ( 2 ribs ). I saw another post somewhere that said that could be an original insulator for the top of the tank?. Fun working on these and learning about a 66 year old car!... Just want to do it the best way as possible

Thanks for the reply!...
