Can the torque converter/ring gear be run without any fluid in it, as on an engine test stand to start the engine without the transmission attached??
Tks

Roger,

This is something I wouldn’t advise. Without the transmission attached, there is nothing supporting the stator. Without the stator support and no fluid inside the converter to lubricate the thrust surfaces and one way clutch, the centrifugal force would surly cause damage to the converter.

Thanks
That was kinda my thought.
a trans shop said I could put fluid in the converter and put a plug on the end but my concern was weather the flex plate was strong enough to support the weight even at an idle RPM??
