1957 sun visor mounting bracket holes

I purchased sun visors from npd there is no hole to insert the mounting brackets, I spoke with them they said to cut a hole in the end or the tube to insert the bracket. anyone have a history of replacing these? hate to destroy a $170.00 item. Thanks BLUE BIRD 57

I'm pretty sure that all of the reproduction visors are a Teamco product, and all of the 55-57 reproduction visors require you to punch a hole through the vinyl into the metal tube inside the visor before the rod can be inserted. I know one person who used a drill bit. I started the hole with the largest needle I could find and gradually increased the size of the hole until I could insert the rod. If you're careful, and start small, you'll be able to feel the metal tube through the vinyl and won't miss the hole in the tube. The last tool I inserted into the tube before installing the rod was a phillips screwdriver. The rod is a tight fit and requires considerable pressure to install. I know it doesn't make sense for Teamco not to make the hole during manufacture.

Maybe I should have said that visors were not standard, or even an option in 55, but I installed them on my 55.

I'm just going to assume that in the manufacturing process that is assumed to be the installers process as NOTHING on these cars is universal. Gives you wiggle room.
I know they were not offered on the '55 I think the design group tried to make them as minimal as possible but an upgrade from the European imports popular after WW!!
 
I agree with both statements…in fact, they are remarkably similar to the set used on my Toyota FJ40 land cruiser
 
Thanks for the information, that sounds like a good way to do it. I’ll let you know how it works out. I guess it’s cheaper not to make one hole.
 
The bracket rod has to go through the tube inside the visor; there is no other way for the visor to be attached, and only one correct location for making a hole so the rod can penetrate the vinyl while being inserted into the tube.

By the way, there are left and right brackets. Mine were mislabeled, which took a while to figure out. It's not a problem if you're only replacing the visors, not the hardware, but it might be easier to remove the bracket, insert the rod into the visor, and then reinstall the assembly. To avoid confusion, you might want to do one side at a time. For those of you who have done it before, you're welcome to disregard.
