I had my dash support recovered. I'm now trying to install the instrument cluster assembly, and it won't fit the opening (see photos). The shot from directly behind the opening shows a lot of material overhanging the opening. The yellow is the foam backing of the vinyl. Seems like I should peel the foam off the vinyl back to the sides of the opening. Needless to say I don't want to have to spring for a new pad (plus labor). As always any advice before I start slicing and dicing will be appreciated.

Never done it on a Tbird but on several 65-66 Mustangs the instruction said to remove all the foam where the instrument panel attaches. Hopefully a Tbird expert will chime in. Good luck
