I'm working on a turn signal issue and found the in line fuse on the orange wire from the flasher to the ignition switch "acc" terminal had blown.

While reinserting the replacement fuse the wire came detached from the fuse holder cap. I need to reconnect the wire into the metal contact which inserts into the cap.

The problem is the hole in the metal contact is small and the wire does not fit easily. I trimmed the wire and attempted to twist the contact on, but it doesn't stay on securely. There are no signs of solder on the contact. Not sure if this is fixable. See pictures. Metal contact is on far left with hole on the top, washer goes over contact (best guess) and all goes into the cap which must be on the wire before inserting it into the contact. HELP! ?

If you really want to reuse that you could try and drill out the hole enough to get the wire in and then crimp the wire in place. Another option is to get a steel pop rivet of the approriate size... take the center post out of it, then use it as the metal contact and crimp the wire inside. Or buy a modern fuse holder that uses a modern fuse and replace that old one.

If you want to retain the originality of the wiring, contact Bauer Electronics in Oregon. He sells and makes the exact duplicates of all the wiring for vintage vehicles. The owner is Chris Olsen and he will get you the correct parts to fix this.

Chris does nice work

I was able to repair the original fuse holder by drilling a larger hole in the metal electrical contact to insert the wire that connects to the "acc" terminal. I had to remove the wire from the ignition switch to complete the reattachment of the wire easier than attempting to do it lying upside down under the dash 🙂

The electrical contact was too hard crimp so to keep the connection securely attached I used Gardner Bender's Liquid Electrical tape. Without this I would not have been able to keep the wiring and metal contact attached.
