The directional signal unit is held in place with 2 screws. The bottom screw is hidden behind the unit. Is there a way to remove the unit without removing the springs that hold the separate parts together? I am concerned that once disassembled I will not be able to get it back together. Thanks for any help available.

You have to remove the turn signal lever and remove the spring holding the lever assy on the sliding switch to get to the bottom screw. They go back together pretty easy.

Thanks I did spend some time looking at the spring. It seemed to be something that once removed would be tricky to reassemble. I will spend a bit more time with it. Thanks for your help.

I will be watching this. My switch works fine but the auto cancel hasn't worked since I bought the car over 40 years ago. A winter project.

I would say that your canceling ring is either missing or the wrong one. The ring fits on the steering wheel and the split or open section has to be on the side of the wheel facing the switch.

Something is worn and it could be the cancelling ring but the lever binds like something is interfering. I can do it manually and can feel when it's centered so both brake lights work. Just need to pull the wheel this winter and asses. Works otherwise.
