I bought a new dimmer switch and cover and the cover doesn't seat flush on the firewall. The problem seems to be the bracket holding the emergency brake cable. This bracket seems to be properly attached to the firewall. But when I put the coverplate with the bottom 2 screws there is a good 1/2 " gap at the top. If I put some longer fasteners in the top 2 holes I can screw it down close to the firewall but there is still a gap. And I'm not sure if I'm creating problems for the dimmer switch and/or the brake cable. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

These car were NEVER gapped properly like the cars of today. A picture would help.....
