My 57 project has electronic ignition and a 1.5 ohm Petronius coil. Petronius tells me the stock ballast is not necessary and I can remove the wiring and connect one wire from the distributor to the “-“ coil and the other wire from the distributor to the “+” coil. It’s never going to be a show car. Should I disconnect the stock resistor or leave it connected?

Disconnect it. It's job is to lower the voltage going to the distributor.
