1957 4-core vs 2-core alumium radiator

I've owned this 1957 for about 38 to 40 years, and we drive it.
I do know that there are people on here who have forgotten more than I know, so perhaps this will help those who don't.
35 years ago, I replaced the radiator with a 4-core steel one, and coming home Friday after about 80 miles, the car ran great, the temp was 175 to 180
Pulled it in the garage, shut it off, and in a few minutes, one of the cores blew up.
I spoke with a couple of manufacturers, and one said we have a 4-core and a 2-core aluminum. I said, 'Send me the four cores,' and he explained how the two cooled better and were the same price. I called another company, and they said the same thing, so I bought the 2-core.
He was not lying; it took the car and an extra 15 minutes to get to 160 to burp the antifreeze.

Also, when Berstein came out with an AOD adapter, they said they can't do it on tbird without cutting the X-frame. Well, you can, and I was talking to Casco T-Bird Parts Restoration today. I told him it can be done, and he said they've been doing two or three change-outs a year. One of the best investments I have made.

Can I ask where you purchased the 2 core aluminum unit and an approximate price? I assume you did the swap yourself?
 
I bought it from Casco Tbird parts in Ohio, as they had two in stock.
400 and change delivered. I ordered it on Friday and received it on Tuesday.
I have been buying as much as I can from them for the last 40 years.
Yes, I did it myself.

This is an interesting thread as I am in a similar situation. Ground up rebuild of a '57. Radiator was rotted out and would like to find a viable aluminum radiator/electric fan setup when I reach that point in the process. Anyone feel they found a good solution?

Many, including myself, have used this one with great results. I run a mechanical fan so can't recommend anything for electric.

I like the rounded top and bottom. Did you paint it black or leave it shiny? Do the three and four core radiators make a difference with the engine heat? I have a spacer behind the water pump and will replace it with a high capacity pump and larger thermostat from https://www.classictbird.com/ before changing the radiator. I need to fix the fuel leak in the carburator first. Always something to fix on a 70 yr old car.

This is an exact replacement for the factory tbird rad. I painted mine black with as light a coat as possible on the fins. Every test I've seen shows the 2 row (1" tubes) cool better than the 4 row (1/2" tubes). Also, tests of airflow show much less airflow restriction (about 25% less restriction) with the two row than with the four row.

I recently changed from the copper/steel US Radiator, to the aluminum. I have a 57 312 auto, no air conditioning. The radiator came from US Radiator. It was pricey, but here in Las Vegas cooling can be a challenge for these older vehicles. This radiator has made a significant difference. It came painted black ( an option) , looks stock. I ordered a core upgrade 2 rows 1.25", and the billet filler neck. I have no way to compare with the ones listed here on ebay. while they are significantly cheaper than US Radiator's there seems to be good reviews (If those can actually be believed). For me, I wanted to know who made it, and I wanted one made in the US. US Radiator folks were very attentive and easy to deal with. The warranty is not "lifetime, as advertised for the one on ebay. I can't tell from the post what "lifetime" really means. The radiator I received from US radiator appears to be very well made, welds look great, and fit was perfect, etc. And in our hot summer weather it made a big difference.

Because of the hot weather and traffic making moving on surface roads a bit slow with long traffic signal wait times, I also added a high capacity water pump, a pusher electric fan to the front that can be toggled on and off, and a nice aluminum overflow. On the hottest days, city street driving, according to my heat gun, I have not exceeded 200 degrees.
