I hope this is the correct procedure for posting questions about different topics.
I'm hoping to address some of the many oil leaks I have on the car.
I'd like to replace the rear auto. transmission seal but looking in the catalogue it says something about a seal and bushing kit. I looked in the service manual but all I can find addressed in it is for Std. Trans stuff. I'm curious what that's about.
Also the power steering ram looks to be leaking. There looks to be rebuild kits for them. how tough a job is it and how successful a repair is it?

I have a 57 and I discovered when I rebuilt the engine that the rear seal gasket is a rope style gasket and not a rubber or cork gasket. I had a leak almost immediately after re installing the engine. They do not seal well and I have just lived with the minor leak. Might be an aftermarket fix but I am not aware of it .

For the rear transmission seal: check with NAPA for the seal and bushing. Over time the driveshaft yoke can wear on the transmission seal. Sometimes you will need to remove the bushing as it gets worn over time. It too is not a major problem The only caveat on the bushings for automatic transmissions is; There may be slots in the bushing if so you need to install the new one in the same orientation. Replacing the seal is not usually a big deal. Pop out the old one with a cotter pin tool and with a wooden block gently tap in the new seal. You need to be careful with the installation to tap the seal in straight. It is easy to get it cocked and that doesn't work. Just require a little patience.

When you have the drive shaft off be sure to inspect the drive shaft yoke plug to be sure fluid isn't coming from the yoke plug.
