1956 Installation of brake pedal support bolt

I am upgrading to disc brakes and new master cylinder. to remove the retaining bolt for the plunger I needed to remove the support bolt from the brake pedal. I am now have trouble getting it back and aligning. Something seems to be stopping it from moving back and up. We all know trying to see and work under the dash is less than desireable but has anyone run into this and have suggestions on what to look for. Thanks!
