My 56 has weak hood springs that barely hold the hood up in my garage. At a car show I have-to use a 1 X 2 to keep the hood from crashing down in a slight breeze. I have had the hood and springs off before and should have replaced the springs, but a lot was going on. Completely restoring the engine compartment, rebuilt the engine, installing rack and pinion steering and a host of everything else under the hood.

So, I would rather install modern struts to hold the hood open.

Has anyone done this and let me know what struts you used and where did you mount them?

Thanks,
Steve

I have not done this nor do I know anyone that has. I have yet to see a hood hinge with the springs so weak that the hood will not stand up. I have a general rule. LITFA. Leave it the F*** alone. You have a beautiful restoration there, I would think that a new set of hinge springs would do the trick.
