Gauge has read hot since I got the car, never overheated, still 6-volt. Don't know history if the sending unit is original. Grounded it out as recommended, but to no avail. Removed unit and checking for resistance, (supposed to be 11-12 ohms), according to Hills catalog. How can I be sure I'm getting the correct one if I decide to buy a new. Hate to drop $70 if I don't have to, Mac's is only $49.

I think you can get a temp gauge radiator cap. See if they match. I replaced the old radiator with an aluminum one and the 3 blade fan with a 6 blade one and removed the thermoustat to increase flow and if I idle for any length of time, 5+ minutes, it creeps up on the needle. If you have an orig. radiator and fan, replace them.
