Is there anyone who knows why the early T-Bird Y-Block fuel pumps had two hose barbs on the fuel pump? I know that one of them is used exclusivly for operating the windshield wipers and othe vacuum comtrolled items. But where is the second one supposed to go? I have been searching photos of other peoples engine hoping to determine exactly what the second fuel pump hose barb is good for. I think someone mentioned that it went to the intake manifold. The intake manifold vacuum may have some merit in that it would assist the fuel pump vacuum diaphram in producing enough vacuum to operate all the vacuum controled accesories. Are my thoughts correct or can someone help me understand?

You have it figured out. Think of one of them as the "IN" and the other as the "OUT". The "IN" gets connected to the manifold. The out will always be at least 10" vacuum even if the manifold has none, like at wide open throttle. The OUT has the vac line that goes into the dash hooked to it. When the pump is mounted, the "barb" farthest away from the engine is the one connected to the intake manifold. The barb closest to the engine is the one that goes to the vac line going into the dash the feeds the wipers and heater.

Do you have a picture of the other hose barb? Here's the photo you requested. This is the fuel pump off my 55 T-Bird that I am rebuilding. The hose barbs I'm talking about are shown on the piece directly in the center of the photo. One was attached with a piece of rubber tubing to a 1/4" steel line that runs up, over the valve cover and attaches to another steel line that goes through the firewall presumably for the windshield wipers.

I’m curious as to where you got the rebuild kit and the price?
I’d like to put one on the shelves..
