Thunderbird Year
2005
At the beginning of October (2024) I bought a used 2005 Thunderbird with 34K miles on it. I've been slowly going through the car as if I'd owned it for the last 20 years to maintain and preserve the car for our future use. Since I bought it out-of-state, I had to get a new title and registration along with new plates. I was notified by the State DMV that to finish my registration process I had to have the emissions checked to verify the car is still functioning within spec.
Hurray! It passed with flying colors.
I wasn't feeling very creative about a vanity license plate, so opted for the Wisconsin "Road America" plate with whatever number they assign. With more than 25 years of serious track time and racing at Road America, I feel the plate will be a nice remembrance of those years.

Overnight it snowed here in Wisconsin, so it's time for Big Bird to go into hibernation until next Spring.

I picked up a battery tender and hooked it up. The car should be happily hibernating all winter now.
BTW, the Wisconsin "Road America" license plate now has more than 5000 issues than does the "Packers" plate. That's saying something for the Wisconsin Gear Heads.
Best wishes,
T-BirdTom

Now here's a tough choice..........................

Later today I'll be at Road America for the Elkhart Lake Men's Service Club meeting and dinner. We will be bringing our favorite Toys to the track and will get to drive it under "supervised" conditions.

I've taken the street rod many times in the past and feel that the T-Bird deserves to share in the fun. So, I've asked my wife's permission to use her car this evening. This will be the first time it's been on the track and I'm looking forward to it.

Best wishes,
T-Bird Tom

Congratulation from PA.
BTW, It's coming up on our Men's Service Club annual get-together at Road America's 4 mile, 14 Turn track in early June. Oh, the Pressure to decide which car to take this year!!

Last year's event was the Bird's first outing there. It is actually (for a big bird) quite nimble on the track. Body roll is negligible, acceleration good and brakes are up to the task of keeping the birdy under control. Having never driven one of the retrobirds before buying ours, I had read reviews from the magazines. I have to say that a Personal Luxury Car is fun on the track, too. Every car I've ever driven on a race track has taught me something new. The 2005 T-Bird has taught me that touring tires give plenty of warning before giving up their traction! Even with a bit of extra air in the tires to keep them on the rims in the corners, the tires complained quite a bit!

Have a great season,
Tom
