Is it true that the Ford 4.6L engine (which was used in a number of different cars?) was intended for Ferrari but they didn't buy it?

A mechanic told me that recently. If it's true, I think that's kinda interesting!

mine purrs even though it didn't have any oil on dipstick when i bought it. doesn't seem to burn or leak it's it's just the nephew never cared. i mean maybe bc it's aluminum it absorbed the stress better. If they use this motor in lots of cars, it must be of a solid design right
