Help Identify 1955 Part

While performing transmission service on our 1955 convertible, this part fell out from underneath the car. Can anyone help me identify it? Thanks in advance.

Yes that is right, I just had my tranny filter changed....

Now that you know what the part is, attached is a picture of the transmission filter retainer securing the filter in place. That way when you remove the transmission pan you will know how to install it.
