Flanged vs Non-flanged Idler Pulley on 2002

Wondering if the two types of idler pulleys are interchangeable? Rock Auto sells both and my logic suggests that a flanged unit would be better, but, is it?

My 2005 had the smooth idler pulley and I replace with the flanged pulley have had no issues as of yet.
