I love my black '57 but would really, really, like a white or peacock '56, so I'm always drooling over '56's that I see for sale.

I came across this one and it has no continental... https://classics.autotrader.com/classic-cars/1956/ford/thunderbird/101072599

I suppose one could do some remodeling and get rid of it, but could you order a '56 w/o the kit?

I like the '57 because they got many of the bugs handled by then, and the black really looks good on a cloudy day. The never-ending swirl marks drive me crazy. I know they are there with lighter colors too but black just seems to show them more.

All 56 Thunderbirds came from the factory with the kit. Some people took them off because they do affect the handling of the car due to the weight at the rear. You will see them with or without the kit. Personally, I own the 56 and love the look of the kit. As always, it is a personal preference.

All 1956 Thunderbirds came with continental kits, no exceptions. Ove a period of time I have seen a number of '56 without continental kits. I have a friend who has had his over 50 years. It was race car before he bought it. Generally the rear bumper is replaced with a '55 rear bumper.
If not conti' kit is not original!

I would not buy a '56 if the kit had been removed. I think it makes the car a classic.
