56 door latch not opening

The passenger side door is not working properly. It will not open occasionally and when it does, it feels like it is hanging up some. I tried adjusting the receiver, checked and smoothed the teeth on the receiver and latch with no help. I think the problem is inside the door. The problem is for both the inside handle and outside button. Before removing the panel, any ideas?

Door hangs straight, no sag, star wheel turns freely when pulling on the handle.
