This just seems odd... Are the crank bearings on '92 3.8L supposed to be offset by about 1/8 inch?
I am rebuilding this engine due to spun rod bearing and in the process of checking oil clearances, discover the replacement bearings in the block are offset relative to the caps. Is this normal for this engine? My local machine shop is vague in a "maybe" answer and local Ford dealership cannot (or will not) answer my question.
I wish I could post pictures of it here, but anyway... I replace the old bearings and they appear to be similar. The colorizing on the block and caps would indicate normal placement. The thrust bearing appears normal, but the others being offset just seems odd and would like any confirmation, please, on this before I continue to assemble it.
