I will not mention the amount of time I have been try to remove the rear bumper of my 2004 Retro Tbird. I would like to see if anyone knows the final solution for taking it off. Yes, lots of info on front bumper removal and so far, zip on rear.

What I have done so far:

1. Unfastened screws holding bumper and panel on each side.
2. Removed two bolts under bumper.
3. FINALLY found correct tool to take those 6 @$%$!!l long screws off. By the way, the correct dimension for that nut is 7/16 standard. Not 10 or 12 metric.
4. Now, do I need to remove the taillights?

I did read something about releasing tabs or clasps. However, I am VERY cautious about putting a soft tool to separate bumper from frame.

I've included some pictures. THANK for any help!

Try this website. Shows both front and rear removal

Here's another website if it helps:

I also included a picture of the rear bomber I removed, showing all of the attachment points. Yep, I know, it's deposited directly on the asphalt, but it needed to be repaired and repainted after removal anyway. If I remember correctly, there's some black silicone around those long studs on the upper rear portion of the bumper that tends to keep the bomper sticked to the rear of the car. You will need to apply a little bit of pressure to break it loose. And to answer your question, yes the rear taillights have to be removed first. Hope it helps.
