2003 Gas tank lid cover installation

Has anyone ever had to reinstall their gas tank lid, this is the outer lid that covers the gas cap entry. Mine was removed and I can’t figure out how to get it back in properly. It has two screws to hold it in place but the da.. thing is hell to get back in properly and straight!
