So I ran the diagnostic test (knob on auto, knob on panel, press cool/ot temp then warm) and got a 3124 code. Any ideas on what this is? I can’t find what it means anywhere. The system only blows cold air, even with the temp set to 90 degrees.

Not sure on the 3124 code, off hand, I can only think of two things that you might be dealing with, either the ACC box itself is be coming defective and they hardly ever give out or your heater blend door actuator is acting up and will not move in the right position........

I am Thinking its the blend door actuator, when I adjust temp I can’t see any movement or hear anything in the box. I do know it’s gonna be a pain to get to.

When I first read your OP, that was my first thought, blend door actuator, mine started messing up about five years ago, but has never gotten much worst, maybe mine is not as bad as yours, mine only seems to hang up on heat sometimes, I know that when I feel the heat on my feet on a normal day, it will straighten up for me if I move the a.c.c. selector to another position or two, other than that mine is working fine......Thank God that actuator is available by several vendors, I'm not sure which one Ford used as an o.e.m., I have not been able to figure that out yet, I'd like to go with what Ford used o.e.m., whichever it is, there's about 6 different brands the last time I checked, been a year or two.....I've been looking into this swap out over time and from what I can figure, it's remove glove box door and we have to cut one of the four hold down loops to get out and when we go back in we have to remove that loop on the new actuator and this time it will be held in with only three screws, which should be fine, now I've removed my glove box door and moved my seat back all the way and hung my head under there a couple times and if you look for the plug-in you'll see where exactly it is (driver's side, top) and from what I see, it looks do-able, I have just not got around to it because I've been doing other projects on my Bird..........But, by gosh, hang your head under there and tell me what you think, the glove box door out of the way provides big time access to that area and provides a little light and only takes 2 seconds to get that door off..........

Mine appears to be behind the glove box and up near the center behind the dash. It has a cross bracing that is welded and not bolted. Speaking with another friend he stated the dash (mainly the center where the radio and Heat/AC controls sits) would need to be pulled and taken apart to get to it. I tried about ten different ways to get into it and pull it. No dice, its to tight and no where near enough room to get in there and work. He stated its about a $30 dollar part and 8 hours of labor costs to have someone do it. Either way I’m not looking forward to the project. Either that or I leave it and only drive it when the AC is needed, lol.

Yea, I've heard of dash pulling but that was on a crown vic, from what I've read it could be done without dash pulling on a Bird, IF it does involve dash pulling, I'll probably run with what I've got for a while, mine only hangs up when I get thru with floor heat and go to off and sometimes it will still be on floor heat, moving my selector around and then back to off always straightens it out and I've got to tell ya it started doing that nearly 10 years ago and has gotten much worst, I feel lucky after you explained how yours was acting out, but from what I saw, it sure looked like there was enough room to drop it in from the top.............IF you do get into yours, post how it went down OR IF you ever find out which brand out there of the 6 or so, made ours o.e.m., I'd be inclined to put back in an oem actuator and not just anything, for IF I ever do this, I don't want to ever have to be in there again....lol
