My 88 5.0 recently started running rough and shuddering at around 1500 rpm. Feels like I unhooked about 3 plug wires. Idles fine, runs fine at higher rpms. Any sugggestions?

Here is a reply I found from a Ford Mechanic on this topic. Obviously it can ke a number of things, even automatic transmission related. But here is what he said:

This could be a leaking hose connected to the MAP sensor, so I recommend checking the hose for any cracks and loose clips first. Then, inspect the wiring and connector for any signs of corrosion or damage. If everything appears fine, it’s possible that the MAP sensor itself may be faulty.

It might also be beneficial to clean out the idle speed control motor or valve, as these can become clogged with carbon. Using some brake cleaner to wash through can help free things up.

Received and installed the new MAP sensor today.

FWIW, the internet says it is located on the passenger side strut tower, but mine was near the center on the upper firewall behind A/C hoses. Took maybe 25 minutes to R&R.

Maybe strut tower location is for turbo cars or v6 cars or something.

Also, new one was much lighter than the old one. Maybe ICs vs discrete components inside.

I will test drive it tomorrow and post result. Fingers crossed, lol.
