Hey everyone. This is my first Tbird ive ever owned. She runs like a top and is beautiful. However. It seems too be eating through thermostats quicker then i can put them in. Everytime i put a new on in it only works for a couple days then sticks again. Anyone have any ideas?

In case you don't get a response, some feedback from having an older Jeep. The fail safe thermostats are triggered on the 4.0L engines and get stuck open. In the Jeep's case, a Mopar thermostat has to be used which does not have the fail safe mechanism. Unfortunately I am not familiar on the 1970s Thunderbird, but it is worth looking into.

Thermostats are as simple a device as it gets and failures on new ones after days makes no sense... The fail safe versions are designed to fail open and provide full flow of the coolant so even that failure shouldn't cause overheating.

Are you sure you have diagnosed the failure properly ?

STANT makes most of them and are of universal good quality. The next time you think you have a failure take the device out and put it in a pan of water on the stove and confirm if it works or not (several youtube videos on how to test it).

And make SURE you're putting the thermostat in the car 'right side up' (I could tell you stories - ugh).

T1000000037.jpgurns out i just had an air pocket in the system on this last one. Vaccum bled the entire system and got multiple decence sized bubbles out. Stays cool now! Heres a pic of the old girl.
