I am just a mom helping my daughter (16) restore her car with my dad's help. Well the person who sold it to her did not give us the trunk key. So my dad came down and pulled the back seat out. Used an extension bar he had made to take apart the lock assembly from the inside so we could get it open. We have since had a key made and I need to put this back together so her trunk will lock. However when my dad put the back seats back into place he USED the bolts he took out of the trunk assembly to bolt the backseat in as they were apparently missing a few bolts. He did not tell me this until he was back home (4 hrs away) and said I just needed to walk in to any auto parts store and they could look up what size bolts and give me a new set. However I have been to 3 different auto parts stores in the Des Moines area and they have all told me the same thing. I need to bring in a bolt for them to find it. We However lack the strength to pull the bottom seat out to get to the bolts. Lol is there ANY way to find out what size I need to get so I can buy what she needs and put her trunk back together?? She would really love to be able to drive her car now that we have the engine running. Any help is greatly appreciated.

First the bolts will be SAE not metric. Go to the hardware store and get a few cheap bolts no longer than 1/2 inch 3/8, 5/16/ 1/4 20 these should cost you less than a dollar. Take them and try them carefully so that you do not strip the threads. If they do not screw in easy they are the wrong size. My best guess is 1/4 -20 as they are very popular. If you have a can of bolts try several to see if any will screw in easy. Once you find the size go the parts house and get automotive grade bolts for your fix.
Good luck glad your daughter is working on this project.

It sounds like you’re almost there! If you can’t pull the seat out, maybe try checking the car’s manual for the bolt sizes or look for online forums specific to your car model for more details. If all else fails, a local mechanic might be able to help identify the right size bolts. Good luck, and I’m sure your daughter will be thrilled once it’s all back together!
