1966 Town Hardtop Trunk Lid will not open

The trunk on my 66 will not open, key turns to left easily, but only goes about 1/2 way when turning to the right. I hear a slight click, but it does not open. I tried WD-40, spare key, pushing down on lid while turning key to right, even tried turning the key upside down. But does not open. Seems the release is only being partially activated.

Any suggestions on how to get it working again?
