Wanting to know if it is safe to remove the shock upper mounting bracket and guide plate that the firewall brace bolts to. I need to temporarily remove the guide plate to fit a dual reservoir master cylinder. Is the shock under pressure, or is their a certain procedure I need to follow so I don't have a piece of metal flying towards my face?
Any info is appreciated.

With a stock shock it should present no problem. A gas shock may differ slightly.
